"Following the money: how a team to use covert surveillance techniques, hidden cameras and a wardrobe full of wigs. How to blow open international money-laundering."

The investigation started with a tip-off: Lycamobile – the global telecoms company and single biggest funder of Britain's ruling Conservative Party – was allegedly laundering millions of pounds a week through Post Office deposits in rucksacks stuffed with cash. The investigations team at BuzzFeed News in London decided to follow the money: donning disguises and wiring themselves up with hidden cameras to tail three bagmen working for Lycamobile as they couriered huge sums of cash around London. Their surveillance operation involved car chases, malfunctioning wigs and even a run-in with the Flying Squad armed robbery division at the Metropolitan Police. And the explosive story that followed triggered a major French prosecution that saw 19 arrested and nine charged with money laundering and tax fraud last summer.
